Description

No. 6, Portsmouth Road, is a house dating to 1912, designed by Inigo Triggs. The building exhibits a strong vernacular style, constructed with lower walls of sandstone rubble and upper walls covered in tiles, featuring scalloped bands. The roof is tiled, with decorative gablets above the hipped ends, creating a low eavesline above the outshots, and a central gable over the projecting two-story porch. The front (east) elevation is symmetrical over two storeys, with an irregular arrangement of windows. A large first-floor staircase window and two circular windows are located on the south side at ground floor level. The north side features three windows above two. A cambered head is above the window above the porch. Casement windows are incorporated throughout. The open porch has a stone arch with a keystone, and the door features panels in a lozenge shape. Prominent brick stacks, adorned with arched panels, are visible. A roadside entrance is marked by two stone piers supporting a hipped, tiled canopy.
