Description
A range of pleasant 18th-century cottages are located at 21-29 Mermaid Street. The cottages are two storeys high, with a single window each. Numbers 21 to 25 contain an additional storey; number 25’s additional storey is below ground floor level due to the sloping hillside. Numbers 21, 22, and 23 are tile-hung, while the rest of the cottages have weatherboarding. The roofs are tiled, with numbers 28 and 29 each featuring one dormer window. Numbers 28 and 29 also have flat hoods over their doorways. Access to the doorways is via several steps. Number 29 features a slightly curved ground floor window. These cottages contribute to the group value of the listed buildings in Mermaid Street, and are viewed in conjunction with numbers 56 and 57 High Street (The Mint).
