Description
Traders Cottage, also known as The Old Trader, is a building that dates back to the 16th century. Originally two timber-framed houses, it is now fronted with stucco, although the timber structure is visible in two places. The building has two storeys and an attic, featuring one window and one dormer on each side. The tiled roof is complemented by a curved wooden brace on the first floor of each house. At each end, there is a later addition with a weatherboard front. Inside, Traders Cottage contains an open 16th-century fireplace. A new modern extension has been added to the south, which presents a modern brick wall to the street. Traders Cottage and The Old Trader are part of the Mermaid Street Group.
