Description

This is an 18th-century row of five stone cottages, numbered 59 to 63 St James Street. The cottages are built of stone rubble, partially covered with a slurry wash. The roofs were originally thatched, but the thatch has been removed from dormers on numbers 59 and 61. The windows are casement windows, some of which have been altered. Number 59 features a small shop and a thatched wing at the rear. A door hood is supported by shaped brackets on the front. Number 59 has one window above and two below, while numbers 61 and 63 each have two window bays. Number 63 has a slightly higher frontage than its neighbours. Numbers 55 to 67 form a group.
