Description
Nutbean Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a large cottage. It dates from the late 16th century and was extended in the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The building is timber framed, featuring a combination of painted stucco infill and painted brick, with weatherboarding on the right-hand gable. The roof is tiled, gabled on the left side and hipped on the right.
The layout follows a rectangular baffle entry plan with four framed bays, including a rear outshut and a gabled stair turret. The farmhouse has a rendered plinth and includes 19th and 20th-century casements with glazing bars. The entrance front displays a mix of one and three-light casements, and there is a ledged entrance door located at the top of a flight of brick steps to the right of center, sheltered by a 20th-century gabled porch. An old insurance plaque is visible at first-floor level.
Inside, most of the frame is exposed, showcasing heavy ceiling joists and chamfered beams. There is an inglenook fireplace that originally included a bread oven, although this feature is now covered over.
