Description

The Poors House is an early 16th-century hall house, subsequently altered in the 17th and 20th centuries. It is now a cottage. The building is timber-framed with painted plaster infill and painted brick detailing; the west gable has a thatched roof, while the east end has a hip roof. The rectangular plan comprises two framed bays of the main hall, and a single bay forming a service and solar block at the east end. The house has one and a half storeys. A 17th-century chimney was rebuilt on the ridge at the east end of the hall, and an early 19th-century chimney is located on the west gable. The windows are irregular, consisting of one and two-light metal casements, with a south-facing entrance. The interior retains much of the timber frame visible to the roof. The building was formerly known as Loddon Cottage.
