Description

Bowyer's Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is primarily constructed of brick, featuring vertical strips of vitreous brick between the bays and between the outer bays and quoins, with some parts being timber framed and filled with brick. It has an old tile gabled roof and is designed in an L-shape with an outshut at the rear. The farmhouse has two storeys and attics, with flanking chimneys and one on the rear gable. The front features a plinth, a first-floor string, and coped gable ends.

The entrance front consists of five bays, with 4-light wooden mullioned and transomed windows. The central door is six-panelled and has an architrave surround, topped with a flat moulded hood supported by cut scroll brackets, and a panel between the door and the hood. Above the door is a date panel inscribed with "B L M 17 49." There are two attic lights in the gable ends, one of which is blocked. At the rear, two framed bays are visible on the west wall. Inside, there is an 18th-century staircase featuring turned balusters and a moulded handrail, as well as a bread oven in the rear chimney that projects from the external wall.
