Description

Farleyhill Court is a large country house situated within landscaped grounds, now converted into flats. The house was originally built in the 18th century, with significant alterations and extensions added in the 19th and 20th centuries. Constructed primarily of brick with a hipped slate roof, it has an irregular plan and several chimneys.

The architectural style features a moulded brick string above the first-floor windows, a brick frieze, a stone cornice, and a blocking course. Brick pilasters accentuate the outer angles, with the right-hand pilasters rusticated. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, although some have been replaced in the 20th century and all have painted arches.

The north-east front is characterized by a central semi-circular bow of three bays, incorporating a central projection. It features a moulded brick string, a cornice, and a blocking course that wraps around the projection. To the right of the bow are three bays, containing a panelled entrance door beneath the first bay. To the left are two bays, each with a panelled entrance door. A late 18th-century extension, distinguished by a plain parapet and four irregular bays, adjoins the main house to the left. This extension’s first-floor level appears irregular and is partially obscured at ground level by a 20th-century addition. Another extension was added in 1876, and a further one around 1900, to the right of the original main part of the house.
