Description
Stanlake Park is a large country house dating from the late 16th century, with some alterations from the 18th century and later. The building is constructed of brick and features a projecting plinth, a moulded stone string course above the ground and first floor windows, and moulded stone copings on the gables and parapets, which are topped with ball finials. The roof is tiled with lead ridges, and there are tall brick chimneys with moulded bases and heads, all having octagonal shafts except for the central stack, which has rectangular shafts. The house is two storeys high with an attic.
On the north front, there is a three-bay central section with a gable above the central bay, large ground and first floor windows that have mullions and transoms, and a central 19th-century brick porch that incorporates an old stone doorway with a panel above. Gabled dormers are present over the outer bays of the central section. Flanking the central section are gabled bays, each featuring 6-light stone mullioned and transomed attic windows, and below, two-storey angular bays with similar windows, although the ground floor windows have been altered in the 19th century. All the lights are from the 19th century.
The south front is generally similar but has a projecting centre with a large 18th-century angular bay that is two storeys high, along with modern projecting ground floor extensions on each side. Some other windows on this front have been altered to 18th-century sashes.
