Description
Vine Cottage is a cottage that dates from the late 16th century, with alterations from the 17th century and further changes and extensions made in the 20th century. The building features a combination of timber framing with brick infill, brickwork, and painted weatherboarding, topped with a tiled gabled roof. It is comprised of two framed bays, with gabled extensions on the right side and at the rear. The cottage stands two storeys high and has three chimneys: one on the left side of the ridge, one on the right at the rear slope of the roof, and one on the right gable of the extension's ridge.
The south front displays irregularly spaced leaded casement windows, with two and three lights. The left section of the cottage has exposed timber framing and is underbuilt in brick, while the right section is set back, featuring weatherboarding on the first floor and brick underneath. There is a planked entrance door with a lion head knocker, sheltered by a gabled porch. Inside, some of the timber framing is exposed, and there is an inglenook fireplace. The roof framing was replaced in the 20th century. The adjacent Woodcot cottage to the west is noted as being of no special interest.
