Description
A large house, now a special school, was built around 1810 by W. Fellows and altered and extended in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick with a low-pitched roof composed of both flat and slate sections. The plan is irregular, with rear extensions. It is two storeys high and has cellars. Notable features include turrets, a first-floor string course, and a toothed string course at the base of the battlemented parapet. The windows are Gothic style, with four-centred heads, some featuring dripmoulds. The north front has a projecting bay with a curved end and an entrance door, flanked by single bays and half-octagonal, full-height turrets. To the right of this are two similar bays and an angle turret, with further 19th-century extensions beyond. The east front has two bays and angle turrets. The south front presents six irregularly spaced bays with turrets in between the angle turrets, and a 20th-century bay window to the right. The house was formerly known as Wraggs Castle and was built on land called Raggets.
