Description

Hall's Farm Kennels, originally Hall's Farmhouse, is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the early 18th century and a 20th-century extension. The building is constructed of brick featuring vitreous headers arranged in contrasting patterns, topped with an old tile hipped roof. It has an L-shaped plan with a two-storey structure and cellars.

On the left side, there is a chimney with a central strip pilaster and an offset head that is carried around by pilasters. The building features a projecting plinth, a string course at the first-floor level, and a moulded and painted wood cornice with modillions. The sash windows have glazing bars.

The entrance front consists of five bays, with slightly projecting bonded brick strips running the full height beside each bay. These strips align with the string course and the heads of the first-floor windows. The second and fourth upper windows from the left are blocked. The entrance features a recessed six-panelled door with sidelights and a flat hood supported by cut brackets, topped with a semi-circular fanlight that has rectangular glazing. Rubbed brick voussoirs and a keyblock frame the door. Short sections of vitreous brick in a diaper pattern flank the central upper window, with defaced diamond-shaped tiles beneath each, marked with -G on the left and 1--1 on the right.

The west front displays bonded quoins, a string course, and a cornice that returns around two feet from the south front, with one bay of windows at the outer corners. Beneath the left bay are two cellar windows and some old brickwork. Inside, some timber framing is visible, along with a late 16th-century open well staircase that extends the full height of the house, featuring turned balusters and a heavy moulded handrail.
