Description
Nether Park is a large country house set in landscaped grounds. It was originally built in the late 16th century and underwent extensions and alterations in the early 18th century, with a further addition made in the early 20th century on the northwest side. The house is constructed of brick and features a narrow string course at the first-floor cill level, a wooden cornice with a fluted frieze, and a brick parapet topped with a hipped old tile roof. It has two storeys and an attic, with flanking chimneys.
The entrance front has two dormers and five bays, with a pediment over the three central bays that includes a bull's eye window in the tympanum. The windows are sash style with glazing bars, and the central entrance door is six-panelled with a rectangular fanlight that has an arched and radiating pattern. The doorcase is Doric, featuring pilasters, an entablature with a triglyph frieze, and a pediment.
Inside, there is an early 19th-century open well staircase with stick balusters and a moulded handrail that leads to a galleried landing. This landing features three open semi-circular headed arcades supported by fluted columns. The principal rooms have 18th-century fireplace surrounds that were added in the mid-20th century.
