Description

Sparks Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a cottage. It dates from the 15th and 17th centuries, with alterations made in the 19th and late 20th centuries. The building is timber framed, partially covered in painted brick, and has sections that are entirely painted brick. It features an irregular tiled roof with gables and one hip, arranged in an L-plan with three bays and a two-bay crosswing hall in the two westernmost bays. There is a 17th-century stair turret, which has been altered in the 20th century, located on the south side. The farmhouse is one and a half storeys tall, with a large raked chimney on the south wall that has a rebuilt head.

On the south side, there are early 20th-century metal casements with two and three lights, while the north side has 19th-century wooden casements. The entrance front has three bays on the left featuring three-light 19th-century casements in tiled, gabled dormers. The ground floor has similar casements that are deeper, with a panelled entry door situated between them and a small flat hood above. On the right, there is a gable with high-quality exposed timber framing.

Inside, much of the timber frame is visible, and there is a three-light 17th-century diamond mullioned window exposed in the kitchen, which was part of a former external wall. The 17th-century stairs have been altered and feature cut balusters and moulded newel posts.
