Description

Magnolia Cottage is a late 16th-century cottage that was rebuilt in the 18th century and extended in the 19th century. It is located on the east side of Eversley Road, near Arborfield Cross. The cottage is constructed of vitreous brick with red vertical strips, along with timber framing to the gable ends with painted render infill, and has an old tile gabled roof. The design is a parallel ridge plan with a 19th-century extension at the rear.

The cottage is two storeys high, with a central chimney on the ridge. The front of the building has a brick plinth, a first-floor string, offset eaves with dentil detailing, red brick quoins, and window dressings. It has three bays; the outer bays feature 20th-century leaded casement windows, while the central bay has a small 19th-century plain casement window above a four-panelled entrance door in a 19th-century gabled porch. There are similar ground-floor windows either side of the porch, matching the windows above.

Inside, the roof features queen post trusses; these are partly rebuilt from the 18th century, but some smoke-blackened rafters remain.
