Description
Church Cottage, also known as Nos. 1 and 2, is a hall house that has been converted into two cottages situated on a moated site, part of which still exists. The building dates from the late 15th century, with alterations made in the 17th century and the late 20th century. It features a timber frame that is encased in brick, with some sections roughcast, and has old tile gabled roofs. The structure is designed in a T-plan, comprising four framed bays and two framed bays in the crosswing, with a pent roof on the southeast side and a half hip on the southwest crosswing. The building stands two storeys high and has end chimneys from the 18th and 19th centuries.
The entrance front consists of four bays, with the right bay being gabled and projecting. It has three-light casements with glazing bars set under cambered brick arches. A 20th-century entrance door with a glazed panel is located to the left of the projecting gable, and there is a second 20th-century entrance door on the right-hand return of the crosswing.
