Description
Smallbrook Farm is a farmhouse that has been converted into a detached cottage. It dates from the mid-17th century, with an additional bay added in the late 17th century. The building features square-panelled timber-framing with brick nogging and wattle and daub, while the front has been rebuilt in Flemish bond. It has a half-hipped thatched roof and brick stacks, with the gable end facing the road. Originally, the farmhouse had two bays, with one room heated, and a kitchen and bread ovens were later added.
The structure is single storey with an attic and has two windows. There is a planked door to the right of the center, set in a beaded case with a gabled porch. To the right of the door is a two-light casement window, and to the left, there is a three-light casement and a 20th-century casement. The first floor is adorned with bullnose tiles and features two eyebrow dormers, each with two-light casements.
On the left side, there are two two-light casements, one located in a blocked door to the right, and a 20th-century door in the outshut to the left. The attic has two two-light casements. The right side of the building has a stretcher bond brick facing over the timber frame, with a 20th-century door on the ground floor, a two-light casement on the first floor, and an attached 20th-century conservatory.
The rear wall retains exposed timber-framing with wattle and daub infill in the panels. There are two two-light casements on the ground floor and two wooden mullioned windows, one of which is blocked, in the attic. To the right, there is a small outshut that partly covers an 18th-century brick bread oven. Inside, the farmhouse features chamfered beams with defaced bar stops, an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel and bar stops, bread ovens, planked doors with strap hinges, and winding stairs located to the west of the fireplace.
