Description
Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 15th century, with alterations from the 17th century and refronting in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of rendered brick and features a Welsh slate roof and a brick axial stack. The building is a three-bay cruck house that originally had a two-bay open hall. It is two storeys high with five windows. There is a four-panelled door to the left within a gabled porch, two three-light casements, a blocked door, and two two-light casements on the ground floor. The first floor has a plat band and five two-light casements. The right side of the house has a lean-to extension. At the rear, there are planked doors, two-light casements, and a three-light fixed window with arched lights, along with a single-storey extension.
Inside, there are three surviving base crucks and smoke-blackened timbers above the former open hall. The 17th-century open fireplace features a chamfered lintel, and there are deep chamfered cross beams with run-out stops supporting the inserted floor over the hall, along with matching chamfered wall plates. The stairs are located in their original position on the west side of the central stack, and there are planked doors. The screens passage was situated at the north end of the hall. In the 19th century, the house was divided into two cottages, and it was refenestrated and rendered around 1870. At the time of the survey in January 1985, the building was undergoing renovation by the Hamptworth Estate.
