Description

Rose Cottage is a pair of cottages that have been combined into one dwelling, dating from the late 17th century. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick with vitrified headers and features a thatched roof with gable-end brick stacks. It is a single-storey and attic structure with three windows. There are two planked doors at the center, flanked by two three-light casements with segmental heads, and three three-light casements in the eyebrow dormers. The right side of the cottage is windowless, while the left side is built in English bond brick and has one two-light casement on the ground floor.

At the rear, there are two planked doors and two two-light casements on the ground floor, along with two dormers that have blocked wooden mullioned windows. Inside, the cottage features blocked open fireplaces with chamfered lintels, chamfered beams with jewel stops, and timber-framed partitions. There are two winding staircases; the southern one was added in the 18th century when the cottage was divided. The original staircase has a handrail with splat balusters and a newel post topped with a multi-faceted finial.
