Description

29 Broad Street is a house that has been converted into offices. Originally built in the late 16th century, it was rebuilt in the mid-18th century and has a 19th-century extension, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, which was once tuck pointed, and features traces of this finish. It has an old tile gabled roof and an irregular plan that includes one framed bay, an 18th-century rebuilt stair turret, and a late 19th-century extension at the rear.

The house is two storeys high, with one flank chimney on the left and a similar but taller chimney on the right. A small central pediment with a moulded cornice projects over moulded brick strings and is flanked by a stone-coped parapet. There is a blocked arched window in the pediment, two sash windows with glazing bars and architrave frames on the first floor, and a central recessed panel between them. On the ground floor, there are two sash windows with glazing bars, with a tripartite window on the left, and a central six-panelled door that has an arched brick hoodmould and a plain semi-circular fanlight. All windows feature gauged brick arches. The return west front has thin 19th-century framing with brick infill and an old tile gabled roof, with a plain brick gable on the right.
