Description

Oxford House is a town house that has been converted into offices and part residential use. It was originally rebuilt in the early 18th century from an earlier 17th-century structure and was extended in the late 19th century, with alterations made in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed of plum brick with red brick dressings and features old tile gabled roofs topped with 19th-century terracotta cresting.

The house has a rectangular plan with two hipped dormers facing the road, as well as extensions at the rear and on the right side, which include one hipped dormer. Some of the original brickwork can still be seen on the rear gable. The building stands two storeys high, with cellars and attics, and part of it is one and a half storeys. A brick string course runs at the first-floor level, and there is a moulded brick course beneath the wooden eaves cornice.

The front of the house has four bays, featuring sash windows with stone sills and panelled sun blind casings. The first-floor windows have rubbed brick heads with scrolled carving, although the glazing has been altered. The entrance, located in the second bay from the right, consists of a six-panel door set in a panelled reveal with an architrave. Above the door is a plain rectangular fanlight, sheltered by a coved shell hood supported by elaborately carved brackets with an acanthus pattern.

Inside, there is an 18th-century open well stair featuring a column on vase balusters, a heavily moulded handrail, and square newels.
