Description

Ashdon and Homeleigh is a house that has been converted into an office and two houses. It dates from around 1600 and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is timber framed, with parts clad in red brick laid in Flemish bond and other sections plastered. It has a roof covered with handmade red clay tiles.

The structure features three bays facing northeast, with a central stack that creates a lobby entrance and a rear wing, forming an irregular T-plan. There is a 19th-century two-storey lean-to extension at the right rear corner, a stair tower at the back of the left end, and a 20th-century two-storey extension beyond that. Additionally, there is a small flat-roofed single-storey extension between the rear wings.

The building stands two storeys high with attics and has a five-window range of late 19th-century sash windows with four lights in earlier openings, all topped with flat brick arches. The central entrance door has six fielded panels and is framed by an early 19th-century fluted architrave and a moulded flat canopy. At the left end of the front elevation, there is an early 19th-century flush six-panel door, with the top two panels glazed, also featuring a similar but smaller architrave and canopy.

Inside, the left ground floor room, now used as an office, has chamfered transverse and axial beams with broach stops, plastered joists, and a wide wood-burning hearth with a reduced chamfered mantel beam. The oak panelling in this room is reported to be modern and is concealed behind current wall surfaces. The rest of the interior is mainly hidden by modern finishes.
