Description
Lower Lovetts Farmhouse is a farmhouse and stable, now functioning solely as a farmhouse. It dates from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th century and an extension added in the mid-19th century. The building features a combination of timber framing with brick infill, brick, and flint, topped with old tile hipped and gabled roofs. It has a rectangular plan consisting of three framed bays, with the former stables located on the west side and a two-gabled extension on the north.
The farmhouse is two storeys tall, with one storey on the left section, which was the former stable. This section has two three-light 20th-century casement windows and a central 20th-century half-glazed door. The main section to the right is irregular in shape, with exposed timber framing on the first floor showcasing thin timbers and a projecting brick plinth. The 19th-century wooden casement windows feature glazing bars, with three two-light windows on the first floor. The ground floor includes an old plank entrance door with a central 20th-century gabled porch, a three-light window with a segmental-arched head on the left, and a three-light 20th-century casement window on the right.
On the east gable, a jowled post and large curved brace are visible, along with a bread oven that has a lean-to tile roof adjacent to the chimney. The building was formerly known and shown on maps as Mitchell's Farm.
