Description
Bear Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with extensions and alterations made in the 19th and mid-20th centuries. The structure features a combination of timber framing with brick infill, some areas encased in brick, and parts constructed entirely of brick. The roofs are gabled and covered with old tiles. The building has an L-shaped plan consisting of three by two framed bays, with extensions at the internal angle. It stands two storeys high and has two chimneys at the rear and one on the ridge, all topped with clay pots.
The south elevation, which faces the road, displays timber framing that is underbuilt in brick. On the first floor, there are three two-light leaded casement windows, while the ground floor features two larger similar windows. To the left of the centre, there is a gabled entrance porch that is now disused, with a plain window replacing the original door. The main entrance is located on the east gable, beneath a large gabled projection that has a tall window in the weatherboarded gable. Inside, the principal ground floor beams and joists are exposed, all featuring plain chamfers, and the roof is supported by a queen post structure.
