Description
Castlemans is a country house, built in the mid-18th century and altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It has been sub-divided into three flats. The house is constructed of brick, with a plinth featuring moulded capping, moulded brick strings at floor levels, and a painted cornice string over the second-floor windows. The roof is covered with old tiles and has flanking chimneys, topped by a parapet. The house is three stories high, with cellars.
The front elevation, which is the main facade, is five bays wide. It features sash windows with glazing bars. The central entrance is accessed via a Tuscan porch supported by piers, wall pilasters, and an entablature. The door itself is six-panelled and is topped by an arched, radiating, enriched wrought-iron and cast-lead fanlight. To the right of the main house is a one-story wing dating to the early 20th century, and to the left is a two-story wing from the early 19th century. This wing was originally stables and is now divided into two cottages.
