Description

Heath End Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with some alterations and an extension from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of timber-frame with brick infill and has been refronted in brick. It features a tiled roof with two brick cross-axial stacks that have diagonal shafts and caps. The farmhouse has a three-unit plan and is two storeys high, with a three-window range.

The exterior includes a stone plinth and a top modillioned brick cornice, with a recessed right-end unit. There is a segmental-headed entrance located to the right of the centre, which has a lean-to canopy over a plank door. There are signs of a blocked entrance to the left. The windows have tile sills; on the ground floor, there is a central segmental-headed window, which was formerly wider, with a three-light casement. To the left is a window with a rubbed brick cambered arch over three-light small-paned glazing with an iron opening casement, and to the right is another window with a rubbed brick cambered arch over a three-light casement. On the first floor, the central window has four-light small-paned glazing with an iron opening casement, while the windows to the left and right have three-light casements, with the right window featuring a rubbed brick cambered arch. The roof is gabled.

The left return of the farmhouse has a high brick plinth supporting three-panel-high square framing. The rear features square framing, but the left-end unit is made of brick and has a top modillioned brick casement. There is a single-storey gabled projection with a through passageway adjoining an early 19th-century stable, along with a small lean-to projection to the left. The entrance to the right of centre has a three-light small-paned casement to its right, which is now part of a late 20th-century glazed sunroom. Above this projection is a two-light window, and the left end has a window with a rubbed brick cambered arch over a three-light casement on each floor. The right return is timber-framed and is attached to late 18th-century and early 19th-century stables and cart sheds.

Inside, the farmhouse features large broadly-chamfered beams and a timber-framed cross wall to the left of the entrance passage, along with a large fireplace with a bressumer in the right end room.
