Description

This building is an outbuilding located immediately north-east of Saddlers on Park Lane in Snitterfield. It dates from the 16th or 17th century, with a 19th-century end stack and various alterations. The structure is timber-framed with brick infill set on a stone plinth, topped by a steeply pitched fish-scale tile roof featuring a brick end stack with clustered shafts. It has a three-unit plan.

The exterior is two storeys high and features a three-window range with entrances at the rear. On the ground floor, there are two windows: one with a small-paned casement and another small wood-framed window, both adorned with bracketed canopies. The first floor includes a five-light wood-mullioned window with leaded glazing and crown glass, along with two additional windows that have two-light leaded glazing, iron opening casements, and crown glass. The frame consists of four bays, with a narrow bay at the left end and a wide bay next to it, displaying three-panel-high framing with a heavy upper rail and bracing to the first floor. There is a brick addition on the left return, while the right return shows four-panel-high framing with a tie beam and collar truss exposed at the gable head. The rear of the building has several entrances.

Although the interior has not been inspected, it is believed to contain a smoke-bay. This outbuilding is reputed to have been owned by Richard Shakespeare and is said to be the birthplace of William Shakespeare's father and uncle.
