Description

Jasmine House is a house built around 1840 for Robert Needham Philips. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a tile roof with brick return lateral stacks and a stack at the rear, both topped with octagonal shafts. The building has a single-unit plan with a cross-wing to the right.

The house is two storeys high and has a two-window range. It has a stone-coped ashlar plinth, wide eaves, and an enriched bargeboard. The entrance, located to the left of the cross-wing, features an ashlar doorcase with a Tudor arch and cornice, leading to a half-glazed door. The windows are double-chamfered and mullioned, projecting slightly under labels. On the ground floor, there is a 3-light window to the left, and the cross-wing has a canted bay window with a 1:3:1-light configuration and an ashlar hipped roof. The first floor has a 3-light window to the left and another in the cross-wing, all featuring decorative glazing with elongated octagons. The roofs are gabled.

The left return of the house has a projecting lateral stack with truncated shafts and a 2-light window to the left. The right return includes a single-storey addition, while the rear has an end stack to the gable with caps on the shafts, a lean-to outshut to the right, and 20th-century casements. The interior has not been inspected. This house is a notable example of a property built for the Philips estate.
