Description

Park Cottages, consisting of numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and Keepers Cottage, were formerly known as Park House Cottages and are located on Church Road in Snitterfield. These dwellings were converted from an outbuilding that belonged to the now-demolished Snitterfield Hall. They date from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with some 19th-century alterations. The buildings are constructed of brick with limestone ashlar dressings and feature an old tile roof with a Dutch gable on the left side and brick ridge stacks at the rear.

The cottages are single-storey with an attic and have a long rectangular plan, with the ends and center sections projecting forward. The exterior includes an 11-window range, a moulded ashlar plinth, a plat band, and a top cornice. The central entrance is accessed by steps and features a rubbed brick flat arch with an ashlar key block above a glazed door, which is flanked by sidelights and has an overlight. The ground floor has 11 windows with brick flat arches and ashlar key blocks above cross-casements, some of which are small-paned. There are also five dormers, two of which at the right end are pedimented, along with some small additions to the returns.

The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have a hall with a moulded ceiling and other rooms featuring deep plaster cornices. Originally, this structure served as a large outbuilding for Snitterfield Hall, although it was likely not intended as a garden pavilion.
