Description
This house, built around 1840 for Robert Needham Philips, is located in Snitterfield. It features painted brick with ashlar dressings and a fishscale tile roof, complemented by a brick end and a cross-axial stack with caps. The building has a single-unit plan with a cross-wing on the right and is a single-storey structure with an attic, presenting a two-window range.
The exterior showcases wide eaves and plain bargeboards with finials. The entrance, located to the left of the cross-wing, includes a porch with a coped parapet and a segmental arch, leading to a battened inner door. The ground floor is adorned with three-light hollow-chamfered mullioned windows featuring dripmoulds, while the upper floor has similar two-light windows, with one located in a gabled half-dormer to the left. The left return of the building has a two-light window on the first floor.
The interior has not been inspected. This house is a notable example of residential architecture built for the Philips estate.
