Description

Nos. 7 and 8 Oakley Green Road are a pair of estate houses built in 1870 for the Van de Weyer family. They are constructed of red brick with contrasting black brick bands and feature a tiled gabled roof. The houses have a rectangular plan with projecting gables on the south side and stand two storeys tall. A large central chimney with a projecting base and central pilaster is adorned with an offset head, contrasting brick bands, and tall clay pots.

The front facing the road has four bays with large, symmetrical gables that have projecting brick toothed verges. There is a projecting moulded brick string course at the first floor, topped with plain tiles. The windows are three-light leaded casements that project outwards, supported by brick corbels and featuring moulded brick cills, along with small tiled pent roofs. On the ground floor, there are two five-light leaded casement windows above a stone panel from 1870 that displays the interwoven initials of the Van de Weyer family.

The entrance porches are set back and have small tiled hipped roofs, located on either side of the gable in the internal angle with the gabled ends, and feature similar contrasting brickwork. These houses were part of the former estate of the Van de Weyer family, whose family house, New Lodge, is listed separately. They are included for their group value.
