Description
Willow Farmhouse is a 16th-century farmhouse, altered and extended in the late 18th century and mid-20th century. It is partly timber-frame with brick and rendered infill, and partly brick, with old tile hipped and gabled roofs. Originally a rectangular plan of two framed bays, it comprises two cells with a central staircase extension on the north side. The house is two storeys high, with a cellar. It has two chimneys with moulded stone cornices and clay pots on the front, and one large, three-stage, weathered chimney at the rear. The north front features 18th-century brickwork in a Flemish bond pattern. It has a projecting plinth, a plain stone cornice, a parapet, and stone coping. There are five bays with sash windows containing glazing bars, stone sills, and gauged brick arches. The central doorcase features Ionic columns, an open dentilled pediment, a six-panel door with a round-headed Adam-style fanlight with lead cames, and is approached by a flight of four stone steps. The interior hall has a dentilled cornice, and the stairs are a 20th-century replacement, repositioned. The drawing room has an egg-and-dart plaster cornice, a panelled dado, and walnut doors with moulded architraves. The study has a dentilled plaster cornice enriched with acanthus leaf ornament, and a marble fireplace with leaf and floral decoration. The building was formerly known as Oakley Place Farmhouse.
