Description

Ye Olde Red Lion is a late 18th-century house, cottage, and stable, later used as a public house and small restaurant. The building is rectangular in plan, with extensions to the left. It is constructed of painted brick with a hipped roof covered in old, nibbed tiles. The north front has a projecting black painted plinth and dentilled eaves. It has two storeys with a central ridge chimney featuring clay pots. The front facade contains 18th-century two-light casement windows with glazing bars. There are two windows on the first floor and three on the ground floor, the ground floor windows having segmental arched heads and boarded shutters. A plain 20th-century door with a small glazed panel is located centrally between the second and third ground floor windows, sheltered by a small pent roof supported on plain brackets. The former cottage and stable on the left of the building are of no particular architectural interest.
