Description

Middle Lodge is a lodge to Shottesbrooke Park, built in the early to mid-19th century and altered in the 20th century. The structure is partly made of flint with Bath stone dressings and partly of brick. It features a tiled roof over the higher section and a slate roof over the lower section. The building has a rectangular plan with two cells, comprising two storeys and one storey. There are two chimneys topped with ornate clay pots and leaded casement windows.

On the south front, there is one bay with a coped gable that has a chequered flint and stone design in the tympanum. It is flanked by two three-stage weathered diagonal buttresses. The first floor has a small ogee-headed single-light window, and the entrance door is planked, set in a moulded stone architrave with a four-centred arch and hoodmould, leading up to a stone step.

The road front to the east features a left-hand section with a parapet that has stone coping and single-light windows in stone surrounds—one on the first floor and two on the ground floor, with the leftmost window having an ogee-head. The right-hand section has brick on the first floor with two wooden-framed windows, while the ground floor is flint with a three-light window in a stone surround. Adjacent to this is a single-storey section made of flint and brick, which includes three single-light windows with pointed heads and wooden frames, along with a planked door situated between the second and third windows.
