Description
Gardener's Cottage is an estate lodge built as a gardener's cottage in 1885 by Alfred Waterhouse. The building is constructed of red brick, featuring raised brick panel patterns in the gables, corbelled corners, and toothed verges. It has a plain tile roof with gabled ends and a central brick axial stack with brick shafts and a corbelled brick cap.
The cottage has a cruciform plan and stands two storeys high with asymmetrical elevations. The gable ends of the wings showcase patterned brickwork and have 3 and 4-light casements with glazing bars in the top lights, set in segmental arch openings. There is a wooden lean-to open porch supported by a timber post, featuring an arch and studding above, and a segmental-headed doorway with a plank door. The main roof extends down as a catslide over an outshut at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
