Description

Stable yard, tower, coach house, and adjoining buildings, now a group of seven cottages, was built around 1897 by W. Ravenscroft. The tower is constructed of plum-coloured brick with stone dressings. It has a square plan and is divided into three stages. The north-west front features a plinth, clasping buttresses to the second stage, two string courses, and a weathervane. A central 4-centred archway is set within a hoodmould and finished with a finial. Flanking the central shaft are two 2-light windows leading to a top-stage oriel window with cinquefoil-headed lights and a hipped roof with a lead finial. A canted stair turret rises to the top stage on the north-east, also featuring cinquefoil-headed windows and a hipped roof with a lead finial. Two 1½-storey cottages flank the tower, forming an “L” wing on each side. These cottages are of plum-coloured brick with stone dressings to their mullioned windows and planked timber gabled dormers. The attached coach house is of 1½ storeys and brick, now painted, with two hipped dormers and a large gable with planked timbers.
