Description
Barn Elms Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1671, featuring early 19th-century window alterations and a mid-19th-century wing to the east. It is constructed of red brick, with a plinth and a moulded plat band. The building has a hipped old tile roof with a catslide at the rear and a projecting central stair wing with a queen post truss in the gable end, along with a large central ridge stack that has arched panels. The farmhouse is designed in a lobby entrance style and stands two storeys high with three bays, featuring glazing bar sash windows with brick relieving arches above. The central doorway has two 2-panelled doors, a moulded surround, and a rectangular overlight. There is a 20th-century brick porch with a gabled tile roof. The mid-19th-century wing to the right is also made of red brick, has an old tile roof, and an off-centre stack to the left. This wing is two storeys tall and includes a segmental-headed boarded door to the right. Inside, there is a 17th-century square well staircase with three flights, turned balusters, and square newels topped with ball finials.
