Description
Jefferys Tomb is a chest tomb located approximately 7 metres to the south-east of the chancel of the Church of St. Mary in Sulhamstead. It dates from the mid-18th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. The tomb features a moulded base and top, with shaped corner balusters. The end panels are fielded, with a fielded panel on the north side that has narrow flanking panels, and a fielded oval panel on the south side that includes cherubs in the spandrels and carved drops on either side. The 18th-century inscription is illegible, but there is a later inscription that reads: "To The Memory Of ROBERT JEFFERYS who died February ? Aged 71 years."
