Description

The Jeffrey Chest Tomb, located approximately 13 metres north of the aisle of the Church of All Saints in East Budleigh, is a Grade II listed chest tomb dated 1851 in memory of Anne Jeffrey. It is made of limestone and features a chamfered plinth with a flat, square-edged lid. The tomb has square corner piers that project slightly from the sides, with each face displaying a trefoil-headed panel defined by a shallow rebate. Each side also includes a concave-cornered panel defined in the same manner. The south side of the tomb is inscribed, with the first word, "Sacred," in Gothic lettering, while the remainder is in plain capitals. The inscription commemorates the death of Anne Jeffrey in 1857.
