Description
Yew Tree Farmhouse is a house dated 1595 that has been altered and extended to the south. It is constructed of coursed rubblestone and features an old tile roof. The building has three bays and a centrally located staircase tower at the rear, standing two storeys high with an attic. At the back, there is a modern flat-roofed two-storey addition, and to the south, there is a late 17th-century single-storey cottage with two bays.
The west elevation has a central entrance that features a modern open gabled porch supported by posts. The windows are 19th-century triple casements with a single horizontal central glazing bar. The gables are coped, and there are end stacks. The cottage has a central door with a tile-roofed porch and similar windows.
At the rear, the staircase tower has timber mullioned two-light windows on the first and second floors, which have heavy chamfers dating from 1595. There is also a two-light mullioned window on the south side for a first-floor room, also from 1595. Inside, there are heavily chamfered door frames leading into the stair tower, and the first floor features cross beams and spine beams with heavy chamfers and moulded stops. It appears that the upper floor was originally open from end to end. The ground floor also has similarly stopped and chamfered cross-beams, and the roof structure from 1595 remains intact. On the west front, flanking the first-floor central window, are two stone plaques; the left one features a fleur-de-lys, while the right one is inscribed with '1595'.
