Description

The Old House is a house dated 1625, as indicated by the datestone on the front elevation, and it has been altered in the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed from Isle of Wight stone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and some red brick dressings. The roof is tiled, with end brick stacks, and the gable ends have stone coping and kneelers. The building has two storeys and attics with four windows.

On the first floor, there is one tripartite early 19th-century sash window, one early 19th-century 16-pane sash window, a small 20th-century window, and a 19th-century two-storey bay window on the right side. The ground floor has two 12-paned bays above and a nine-paned sash window. The doorcase, located in a stone extension, is early 19th-century with a cambered surround, fanlight, impost blocks, and 20th-century plank doors. There is also a small three-light round-headed window on the side.

Inside, the house features an early 17th-century stone fireplace with a stone lintel and carved sides. One spine beam has a lambs tongue stop and three grooves, while another is roll moulded. The first floor includes a two-inch chamfered axial beam with a lambs tongue stop. The attic contains an early 18th-century two-panelled door and a roof supported by principal rafters.
