Description
The Town Hall, built in 1763 by Thomas Lord Holmes, who was the Governor of the Isle of Wight, stands on the site of a medieval town hall. It is constructed of red brick in English bond at the front and Flemish bond on the sides, topped with a hipped tiled roof, featuring the two lower courses made of stone slates. The building has two storeys and three windows. The first floor is fitted with 16-pane sash windows, while the ground floor features three round-headed arches connected by impost blocks. Originally, these arches were likely open, but now there is a central door and two windows. The Town Hall has a moulded brick eaves cornice and a stone plinth. A 20th-century plank door is present. On the right side elevation, there is a 16-pane sash window and a round-headed window with an iron grille on the first floor. Inside, there are four ceiling beams and a six flush panelled door on the left-hand side.
