Description

Jireh House is a building that originally served as a public house, later adapted as tea rooms and a guest house. It dates back to the late 16th century and was altered in the early 19th century. The building is constructed from stone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins. The front elevation has been heightened with cement rendering, while the rear is faced with old brickwork. The roof is slate-covered with a brick chimneystack at each end.

The building has two storeys and four windows, primarily containing 19th-century casement windows. The ground floor features three stone relieving arches, two 16-pane sash windows, and one 20-pane sash window within a moulded architrave. The early 19th-century doorcase has pilasters and six reeded panels. The right side elevation has a plinth and a blocked-in light to the gable. A 19th-century brick and slate extension is located at the rear.

The tea room on the ground floor's right side contains a late 16th-century stone arched chimneypiece with blank spandrels. A 16th and 17th-century plank and muntin screen separates the tea room from the hall. The hall features an axial beam with a lambs tongue stop and a decorative top to an upright post carved with apples and pears. An early 19th-century curved staircase has scrolled tread ends, two turned balusters to each step, and two round-headed alcoves. On the first floor is an ovolo-moulded beam with lambs tongue stops. The roof structure exhibits principal rafters, clasped purlins, and a removed collar beam.
