Description
Castlethorpe Lodge is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the 17th century but has undergone significant alterations, particularly in the early 19th century. The building is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features hipped tiled roofs, with the southern pitch slated. It has two storeys plus an attic and is arranged in a letter L plan.
The south elevation includes sash windows, with a 3-pane window on the left, a 4-pane window in the centre, and a tripartite window on the right. There is a door situated between the left-hand windows, which lacks a bracket hood and is supported by Gothic-style brackets. Oak lintels are present above the openings, and there are two dormers on this side. The building has end stacks.
The west elevation facing the road consists of three bays, with casements in the left-hand bays and a tripartite sash window on the right. The first floor features 4-pane sashes flanking central casements, along with two dormers. This elevation has a lower roof compared to the south range and includes a lean-to on the left side.
Attached to the north of the lodge is a low stone dairy with a tiled roof, and parallel to it is a brick range with a slate roof that includes pigeonholes in the south gable.
