Description
Middlefield Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with later 17th-century extensions on the side. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled stone slate roof, along with stone and brick stacks at the ridge and ends. The building has a four-unit plan and stands two storeys high, with a five-window range. There is a central 20th-century glazed door with a timber lintel, flanked by early to mid-19th-century ten-pane sash windows, also with timber lintels, and 20th-century casements. To the right, there are two small gabled dormers. At the rear, stop-chamfered lintels can be seen on the right side. The central gable features a hood mould over early 17th-century three-, four-, and five-light hollow-moulded stone-mullioned windows, and there is a 19th-century outshot to the rear left. Inside, the central rooms on both the ground and first floors have early 17th-century stop-chamfered beams, while later 17th-century stop-chamfered beams are present on the right side.
