Description

Downhill Farmhouse is a farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century. The roof timber is dated December 12th, 1806. It is constructed of limestone ashlar, with gabled stone details, a slate roof, and stone ashlar rear stacks. The building has a U-plan with rear wings. It is two storeys high, with a three-window range, and a gabled bay to the left. A central 19th-century six-panelled door is set within a 20th-century porch. Flat stone arches feature over the window openings. The left gable has 19th-century three-light cross casements and a five-light attic casement; a tripartite sash window is to the right of the door, and 20th-century casements are above. An outshut is located to the left, and the rear wings are built of limestone rubble with stone slate roofs. The interior features a dog-leg staircase with winders and stick balusters. The roof has butt-purlins.
