Description
Grass Ground Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled stone slate roof with end stacks made of stone finished in brick. The cottage has a two-unit rear outshut plan and stands two storeys high with a three-window range. An old timber lintel is positioned over a 20th-century door, and there are 20th-century timber lintels above the 20th-century windows. To the right, there is a projection for a bread oven, and the service range at the rear left has been remodeled in the 20th century.
Inside, the cottage has chamfered beams, and the room to the left features quartered stop-chamfered beams. There are winder stairs adjoining the stacks, and a 17th-century plank door leads to the attic stairs on the left. The roof is a three-bay collar-truss design with butt purlins, while the rear range has older principles with trenching for through-purlins.
