Description
Candlemas House is a house from the early to mid 18th century, located on Rochester Street in St Margaret's. The building is constructed of brick, which may be cladding an earlier timber frame, and features a Kent-tile gable-end roof. The front range runs parallel to the street and has a hipped rear wing, with a stack positioned at the rear or on the ridge. The house has two storeys with an attic.
The front facade displays a regular arrangement of two windows, along with two dormers featuring Yorkshire sashes. The windows have four-pane horned sashes set in reveals, with flat arches above the first-floor windows and cambered arches above the two ground-floor windows. The doorway is off-centre, with reveals, a surround, and a cornice supported by console brackets, leading to a panelled door. There is also a newer doorway located at the extreme right.
