Description
Wellesley House is a mid-19th century house located on Rochester Street in St. Margaret's. It is constructed of red brick with fine lime mortar pointing, although the roof material is not visible. The building has a double depth plan and features lateral stacks on the left side, with the stairs located at the rear left. It stands three storeys tall with a basement.
The front of the house has a tall three-window range, with regular paired sash windows on the left side for each floor, and a single sash window above the entrance on the right. All windows have sills supported by brackets and are set under cambered arches, with the sashes consisting of two panes and horns. The doorway is adorned with a stucco surround, featuring panelled pilasters, a moulded cornice on console brackets, and a round-headed arch with a keyblock. The entrance has a deeply recessed half-glazed door topped with a fanlight. The extensive rear of the building includes sash windows and a round-headed stair light. Wellesley House is included for its group value.
