Description

Nos 158, 160, and 162 Eastgate are three shops built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of brown brick and feature a Welsh slate roof. The buildings have a double depth plan and rise three storeys high, with three brick ridge stacks. The façade includes a four-window range arranged as 2.1.1, topped with a parapet that has stone coping and a cornice band. All upper windows are set under painted flat brick arches and consist of sash windows throughout; the second floor windows are horned, while the first floor windows are hornless, with 12 panes each, except for No 158, which has plate glass sashes. Nos 158 and 162 have replica shopfronts from around 1900, while No 160 features a genuine c.1900 shopfront with fluted pilasters. There is vehicular access between Nos 160 and 162, and the rear of the buildings has largely intact horned and hornless sash windows.
